Volume 5, Edition 7 - May 19, 2025 |

| Hello and welcome to the May mid-month edition of the Blue Beacon!
It's kickoff season. Keep your eye on the JeffCo Dems calendar and the Blue Beacon for all of these fun events. Are you wondering, "what else can I do"? There's a lot. We are encouraging all those who are interested in their community and having good, compassionate government, to attend City Council, County Commissioner, and School Board meetings. This is your opportunity to make your voice heard. These meetings are on the JeffCo Dems Calendar and listed below. Too often, it is only hateful voices at these meetings. The good Democrats who serve in these elected offices need to know they have your support for progressive policies.
We are also continuing to keep our Resistance page up to date with opportunities to protest, rally, boycott, and generally resist the efforts to take our country in the wrong direction. If you have items for the Resistance page, please send them to Office@JeffCoDems.Org.
This is an odd numbered year, which means City Council and School Board elections. Good government starts locally. Get to know who is running in your area on our 2025 Candidates page. These candidates need donations. Even a small amount goes a long way in a City Council race. They will also need volunteers to host house parties, canvass, phone bank, and drop literature. Consider adopting a race and connect with the candidate to see how you can help.
I hope you've marked your calendar for the John Noriega Memorial Picnic, hosted by the JeffCo Dems Labor Advisory Committee on June 22. Tickets will be going on sale soon. We are also planning another JeffCo Dems Pride Night for the evening of June 27. Details are still being worked out, but we hope you can join us. I look forward to seeing you at one of our amazing summer events. In Solidarity, Kathryn Wallace, Chair Jefferson County Democratic Party |

Spotlight on VETI Fundraiser for Freedom Service Dogs |
|
|
On Sunday, May 18, The JeffCo Dems Veterans Initiative (VETI) raised over $1,400 for Freedom Service Dogs, a nonprofit group that helps those in need with canine assistance. The fundraiser, held at Over Yonder Brewing Company just outside of Golden, used a number of incentives to encourage donations. They included a raffle, handmade bracelet sales, and direct donations to Freedom Service Dogs.
Marine veteran Chris Boyer and his own service dog Noodles represented Freedom Service Dogs. In a very moving speech to the attendees, Chris recounted his own struggles with PTSD after fighting in Iraq and elsewhere. After being diagnosed with severe depression he found Freedom Service Dogs which then matched him with Noodles who has been his partner in life since 2019. Chris now promotes Freedom Service Dogs whenever called on to do so. For more information about Freedom Service Dogs and how you can help visit their website at https://freedomservicedogs.org/
