Volume 5, Edition 8 - June 2, 2025 |
| Hello and welcome to the June edition of the Blue Beacon!
June is a busy month for the JeffCo Dems. June 14 is No Kings Day, with several protests both in JeffCo and Denver. But before you head out to the protests, please join us for a special Second Saturday, all about education. Details below. The next weekend, join us for the John Noriega Memorial Picnic on Sunday, June 22, hosted by the Labor Advisory Committee. We are also excited to recognize Pride Month with our annual JeffCo Pride night on Friday, June 27. In the meantime, there are picnics, happy hours and kickoffs galore to attend.
We continue to encourage all those who are interested in their community and having good, compassionate government, to attend City Council, County Commissioner, and School Board meetings. This is your opportunity to make your voice heard. These meetings are on the JeffCo Dems Calendar and listed below. Too often, it is only hateful voices at these meetings. The good Democrats who serve in these elected offices need to know they have your support for progressive policies.
We are also continuing to keep our Resistance page up to date with opportunities to protest, rally, boycott, and generally resist the efforts to take our country in the wrong direction. If you have items for the Resistance page, please send them to Office@JeffCoDems.Org.
I look forward to seeing you soon. In Solidarity, Kathryn Wallace, Chair

Spotlight on Cinco de Mayo Fundraiser for Casa de Paz
A huge thank you to Nicole and Rueben Casarez, co-captains in HD25, for hosting a Cinco de Mayo potluck fundraiser. Over $1,300 was raised to benefit Casa de Paz, a Denver organization that helps immigrants who are in, or have been recently released from, detention. They are located outside of the immigration detention center in Aurora, waiting for folks to be released. They offer everyone a ride to Casa and provide wifi and phones for them to contact family or legal assistance. Casa provides food, water, bus tickets, clothing and other direct help to those released who often were sent to the Denver area without any resources or family here. Volunteers can help with driving, writing to isolated detainees, or donations. A representative from Casa de Paz attended to talk about her work and explain other volunteer opportunities that are available with the group.
To learn more about Casa de Paz, see the organization’s website: https://www.casadepazcolorado.org/
