Ooops. We goofed. This week there was a software issue and an incorrect version was sent out. The Blue Beacon is produced by volunteers. We appreciate your grace and extra attention to this edition. Please see the events below which have been corrected.
Hello and welcome to the Blue Beacon!
The resistance continues this Thursday at the Good Trouble protests that are taking place around the County. More information at our Resistance page
.
We are excited that thanks to Abe Penland, our Assistant Treasurer and webmaster, we have been updating our website. Please see the new front page.
One of the great new features is that you can now look up any address in JeffCo and get a list of districts. This is great for people who have moved or are new to the party. Please check it out.
We continue to encourage all those who are interested in their community and having good, compassionate government, to attend City Council, County Commissioner, and School Board meetings. This is your opportunity to make your voice heard. These meetings are on the JeffCo Dems Calendar and listed below. Too often, it is only hateful voices at these meetings. The good Democrats who serve in these elected offices need to know they have your support for progressive policies.
In Solidarity,
Kathryn Wallace, Chair
Jefferson County Democratic Party

Spotlight on Library Union
|
|
|
As part of JCPL's first contract negotiations with the employees after unionization, JCPL has proposed a more restrictive dress code that would not allow for any text on attire except for county and library logos. Staff at JCPL are concerned about this proposal as it explicitly would ban attire reflective of Pride, Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage, Deaf History Month, Autism Awareness Month, Trans Day of Visibility, Banned Book Week, Women's History Month, etc. Concerns raised by staff have been met with the argument that the attire would be banned because of its "political nature" and with statements that offended patrons may yell at staff for wearing items in support of our communities here in JeffCo. Staff are concerned this indicated a future plan to roll back on diverse and inclusive programming and collections at the library since dress code is an internal policy and could be used to gauge resistance to this change. You can read more about the issue here as reported on by the Golden Transcript.
We, the staff at JCPL, are asking our patrons and community members to sign this petition
before Wednesday, July 16th
so that we can present the list of names against the admin's dress code at the next Board of Trustees meeting.
We're also asking the community to join us in-person at the next Board of Trustees meeting
in solidarity for a common sense dress code. The next meeting is Thursday, July 17th at 5:30pm at the Lakewood Library Meeting Room
at 10200 W. 20th Ave. Lakewood, CO 80215.
